The three hospitals of the UTSP belong to three distinctive regional stroke centres in Ontario.
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is part of the North & East Greater Toronto Area Stroke Network.
St. Michael’s Hospital is part of the South East Toronto Stroke Network.
Toronto Western Hospital is part of the Toronto West Stroke Network.
The goal of the regional networks are to reduce incidences of stroke and improve outcomes for persons and families with stroke, through implementation of best practices in stroke care, in the following areas:
- pre-hospital and emergency care
- acute stroke care management
- re-engagement into community post-stroke
These three networks encompass the entire Toronto region, out of eleven regional networks in the province of Ontario. Together, they have formed a partnership with local healthcare organizations and service agencies to provide care and assistance to stroke survivors and their families and caregivers.
